IKEA’s online store sucks
I was looking at IKEA’s website, thinking about buying a desk from them. I wanted to see how much shipping would cost, so I went plugged in shipping information and proceeded to the checkout screen.
I was greeted with this:

Huh? Every other online store can tell me shipping costs on the spot. Now I have to wait for you to email me the costs, then I have to log back in and confirm the order? Couldn’t IKEA, at the very least, give an estimate to the person that is ready to buy their product on the spot?

I reckon its better to wait 24 hours and get the exact shipping time/date than a random “2-8 days”.

I couldn’t agree more - I wish that cheap items you could order…there’s too much “visit the store only”.

I actually was interested in purchasing a simple bedframe and bedslats (the purchase would have been about $120), and since I live in Portland, I figured that shipping from Seattle couldn’t possibly be all that expensive. When I called to get a shipping quote, I was told that shipping to my area–a major metropolitan area!–STARTS at $250!!! That’s without any actually freight costs factored in…if I had ordered, I would have spent about $450 altogether…$120 for product, $250 for “handling”, and another $80 for freight costs. It would actually cost less for me to fly to Seattle and ship everything to Portland through UPS.
